Depth – Volume – Area Calculator
Solves the depth–volume–area relationship (d = V/A) for whichever quantity you don't know. Works for any combination of consistent volume, area, and depth units — not just the textbook example.

About this calculator
Depth of application (d), volume of water applied (V), and area irrigated (A) are related by:
d = V / A — V = A × d — A = V / d
Pick which quantity you want to solve for, enter the other two, and choose the unit you'd like the answer reported in. If your volume comes from a flow meter's volume totalizer, check "Use flow meter totalizer readings" and enter the before and after readings directly — the calculator subtracts them for you.
Textbook Example 3.2: A flow meter totalizer registered
12,590,900 gal after an irrigation and 8,925,100 gal before it, on a 90-acre
field. Depth applied = 1.5 in. Click "Load textbook Example 3.2" above to see it
worked through.
